Bukowski

buk_smCharles Bukowski: Poet on the Edge

Oct. 9, 2010–Feb. 14, 2011

 

This exhibition on the life and works of Charles Bukowski, one of the most original voices in 20th-century American literature, will feature first editions of his works, including Ham on Rye, the autobiographical novel about his brutal childhood and young adulthood; Factotum, the fictional account of his succession of low-end jobs; and Barfly, made into a film in 1987, starring Faye Dunaway and Mickey Rourke.





Bronzes

bronze_smBeauty and Power: Renaissance and Baroque Bronzes from the Peter Marino Collection

 

Oct. 9, 2010–Jan. 24, 2011

 

The exhibition displays publicly for the first time New York architect Peter Marino’s private collection of approximately 20 bronze statuettes made from about 1500 to the mid-18th century in Italy, France, Germany, and the Netherlands.





Talk and Book Signing: Helen of Pasadena

Dec. 12 (Sunday)

2 p.m.    Free

 

Writer and talk show host Lian Dolan, one of radio’s Satellite Sisters, discusses her new novel, Helen of Pasadena, which takes place in and around The Huntington. Dolan, a longtime Huntington Member, will reveal her inspiration for a key plot device in this lighthearted romantic comedy. A book signing follows. No reservations required.





Myth

Nov. 6, 2010 – Mar. 7, 2011

 

This small exhibition features the work of British artists of the 18th and 19th centuries who experimented with subjects drawn from Greek and Roman mythology.
