Lesley Vance & Ricky Swallow
Nov. 10, 2012-March 11, 2013
In a dramatic departure from tradition, The Huntington presents the first exhibition of contemporary paintings and sculpture to be displayed inside the Huntington Art Gallery, showcasing the work of Los Angeles–based artists Lesley Vance and Ricky Swallow.
Jan. 17 (Thursday)
7:15 p.m.
NOTE: This event is at the Mark Taper Auditorium, Los Angeles Public Library, Central Branch
Join Jennifer Watts, curator of photographs, The Huntington; Christopher Hawthorne, architecture critic, Los Angeles Times; D.J. Waldie, author and historian, for a conversation about the hugely influential photographer Maynard L. Parker, whose archive is part of the Huntington’s collections. Parker aimed his lens at the mid-century masterworks of the L.A. architects and designers whose homes embodied the American dream during a time of demographic transitions, Cold War anxieties, and a suburban society driven to consume. Event inspired by the new book Maynard L. Parker: Modern Photography and the American Dream. Free. Reservations required.
