Youth and Family Programs
At The Huntington, kids and families learn from "the real thing," be it a personal letter in George Washington's own handwriting, a priceless 18th century cabinet with secret compartments, or a strange carnivorous plant that eats bugs. The Huntington's Youth and Family Programs offer one-day workshops, pre-school series, weekend festivals, and even week-long day camps.
Workshops are scheduled bi-monthly and allow youngsters an opportunity to learn from the experts and try their own hands at projects such as flower arranging, creating bonsai trees, planting succulent dish gardens, paper making, constructing a plant and flower press, bread making, or creating a terrarium. For more information, call 626-405-2128 or visit our online calendar for dates and details.
The Discovery Carts are mobile, educational exhibits for children and families that encourage observation and exploration. Discovery Carts offer visitors the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities in the gardens using live plants, artifacts, and other objects. For cart details and hours, visit here.
The Huntington offers four-week long-preschool programs throughout the year with a special focus on introducing young ones to various aspects of The Huntington's collections. Past themes have included the Japanese Garden, Art and Nature, and Alice and Wonderland. For more information, call 626-405-2128 or visit our online calendar for dates and details.
The Huntington’s gardens are a beautiful setting for Girl Scout Bridging Ceremonies. Ceremonies must take place during public hours, and though no prior arrangements are necessary, we ask groups be courteous and not detract from other visitors' enjoyment. While The Huntington is unable to accommodate badge or other specially organized programs for Brownies and Girl Scout troops, they are welcome to take advantage of The Huntington’s admission group rates for groups of 15 people or more (children ages 5-11 are $8). No advance reservations necessary. Docent-led tours and Tea in the Rose Garden Tea Room are also available for an additional fee.
