Frequently Asked Questions about Membership

How soon will I receive my Membership card?

You can expect to receive your permanent Membership card(s) approximately 3-4 weeks from the day your contribution is received. If you purchase your Membership in person, you will be given a temporary Membership card to use until your permanent card(s) arrive. If you purchase your Membership online, simply show your purchase confirmation page with a picture I.D. when you visit to start enjoying your Membership benefits immediately.

How many cards are included with my Membership?

All Members receive two cards per Membership. Affiliate level and higher receive two Youth entry cards for children ages 13-18; Supporting, Patron and Benefactor levels receive a third adult entry card.

I visited last week and want to become a Member, can I apply my admission toward my Membership?

Visitors may apply up to $50 of admission credit to a Membership purchase on the day of your visit only.

How do I redeem a Membership offer code?

If you have an offer code, enter it in the coupon field at checkout under Payment Information. Find your offer code on the bottom of your renewal letter or side of your renewal email. Not all letters include an offer code. Go to Membership levels

Why do I have to show a photo I.D. when I use my membership card to visit?

We require that one cardholder present a photo I.D. upon entering as a protection to our Members should cards be lost or stolen. We ask that our Members refrain from sharing their cards with neighbors and friends as we rely heavily on Membership dues to support our programming and Member services.

If I forget to bring my membership card, can I still visit for free?

Yes! Just bring your photo I.D. and stop by the Membership window to check in for the day. You'll be issued a temporary card and receive free admission for all those eligible under your Membership level. The temporary card will also entitle you to a discount in the Huntington Store, Red Car Coffee Shop, and 1919 Café, depending on your Membership level benefits.

How can I replace a lost/stolen membership card?

Simply stop by the Membership window on your next visit, show your photo I.D., and we’ll issue you a temporary card which can be used immediately. You’ll receive your permanent replacement card in 2-3 weeks. Please note there is a $5 processing fee for each replacement card. You may also order replacement cards by calling 626-405-2124, or by mailing your request with a personal check to Huntington Membership, 1151 Oxford Road, San Marino, CA 91108.

If another cardholder on my Membership doesn’t come with me, can I take someone else in their place?

Yes! If the second cardholder cannot attend with you, you may bring a guest in their place. Please note at least one named cardholder on the Membership must be present with a photo I.D. To verify how many people are covered under your Membership category, see Membership Levels or call 626-405-2124.

Can I send my children to The Huntington with their grandparents?

Membership cards are non-transferable, so you would need to purchase a Membership that allows you to add an extra cardholder (Supporting, Patron or Benefactor) or give the grandparents your one-time use guest passes. Your children’s admission, under age 18, is always covered under your Membership.

Are guest passes transferable?

Yes! Each guest pass is valid for either one adult or child admission, and the Member need not be present when guest passes are used.

I have guest passes from several years ago that look different than current guest passes, do they expire?

Guest passes received from a previous renewal have no expiration and may be used during any regular public hours.

Will lost/stolen guest passes be replaced?

Guest passes are mailed with your Membership card, and, unlike your Membership cards, may not be replaced if lost or stolen. Please keep your guest passes in a safe place.

What if I want to bring a guest before I receive my guest passes in the mail?

Simply stop by the Membership window during regular public hours to verify your Membership purchase.

Can my Gift Membership activation package from the Holiday appeal (free gift Membership with Upgrade or Renewal of higher level) be used for renewal of my Membership?

No, Gift Memberships received as part of the Holiday Membership upgrade/renewal appeal are not valid for renewal of your own Membership.

How can I add a nanny or a caregiver to my Membership?

By joining at the Supporting, Patron or Benefactor level, you may designate a third person for an entry card on your Membership. This person may be a family member, nanny, caregiver, or anyone of your choice. Entry card holders do not receive event benefits but do receive the Huntington Store, Café and Coffee Shop discounts. You may also give your guest passes to your nanny or caregiver to use for a one-time entrance, or give them the gift of a Sustaining Membership.

How can I keep up on Huntington events and news?

Sign up for our monthly email to learn about upcoming programs, exhibitions, Member events and more! As a Huntington Member, you'll also receive the bi-monthly print Calendar, our member newsletter, and Huntington Frontiers magazine. All Huntington programs, events, and exhibitions are also online at

Is my membership tax deductible?

Yes! All Huntington Memberships are tax-deductible as allowed by law.
