Award-winning documentary filmmakers Ric Burns and Li-Shin Yu will show a portion of their film The Chinese Exclusion Act, followed by a discussion moderated by Li Wei Yang, curator of Pacific Rim collections at The Huntington. The film explores the important connections between the Chinese Exclusion Act—a federal law, enacted in 1882, which prohibited all immigration of Chinese laborers until its repeal in 1943—and civil rights, immigration, culture, and American identity.
