The Huntington grants reading privileges to doctoral students engaged in dissertation research.
Students of American and Canadian universities who have passed their PhD qualifying examinations and been advanced to candidacy should complete this registration form and send it, with a letter from their dissertation advisor, to: Reader Registrar, Reader Services Department, Huntington Library, San Marino, CA 91108. The letter should confirm the student’s status as a PhD candidate and should describe the nature of the proposed research and the need to consult the Huntington’s collections. It should be mailed with the registration form.
Doctoral students at universities outside the United States and Canada should complete this registration form and send it, with a letter from their faculty advisor, to: Reader Registrar, Reader Services Department, Huntington Library, San Marino, CA 91108. The letter should confirm the student’s academic status and should describe the nature of the proposed research and the need to consult the Huntington’s collections. It should be mailed with the application form.
Once we receive your application packet we will get back in touch with you (by email unless you specify otherwise) to confirm your registration appointment. Please bring your student id and some other photo id, such as a driver’s license or a passport, to your appointment.
