Huntington Gallery of Art

Students will discover the Huntington's interest in collection 18th-century British and French art, as seen through paintings and decorative art from their private collection. 

Discovering Art in the Huntington Art Gallery

A program for primary grade levels that introduces children to art using basic concepts such as line, shape, color, and texture. This program includes a hands-on activity.

  • K through 3rd grades
  • Program begins at 10:00 a.m. — 1¼ hours in length
  • Accommodates a maximum of 40 students per day
  • Fridays only
    • October 17 through December 5, 2008
      (No tours November 28)
    • January 9 through May 22, 2009
      (No tours April 10)

Discovering Art in the Gardens

This tour takes place in the gardens of The Huntington where children experience the elements of landscape paintings:  sunlight and shadow, near and far distances, color, texture, and much more!  The tour culminates with the children trying their hand at composing a landscape painting.

  • K through 3rd grades
  • Program begins at 10:00 a.m. — 1¼ hours in length
  • Accommodates a maximum of 40 students per day
  • Fridays only
    • October 17 through December 5, 2008
      (No tours November 28)
    • January 9 through May 22, 2009

Special Exhibitions

The Huntington offers docent-led school tours of many of our temporary art exhibitions.  These tours focus on an individual artist or theme. 

The Architecture and Decorative Arts of Charles and Henry Greene

  • 4th through 12th grades
  • Program begins at 10:00 a.m. — 1½ hours in length
  • Accommodates a maximum of 40 students per day
  • Wednesdays only
    • October 22 through December 3, 2008
      (No tours November 26)

Virginia Steele Scott Gallery of American Art

The Scott Gallery will be closed during the school touring year 2008/2009 for reinstallation of the American collection.  Look for new Scott Gallery tours in next year's school programs brochure.
