Echinopsis ‘Arabesque’

Echinopsis ‘Arabesque’

Echinopsis ‘Arabesque’ (1249-27). Flower to 4 inches (10 cm) across. Petals very broad, beautifully mucronate, with prominent ruffles, strikingly bicolored pink to light magenta and bright yellow. Filaments appearing light yellow. Throat-circle white. Stigma dark green. Stem handsome, bright green, semicolumnar, to 4 inches (10 cm) in diameter; areoles relatively large and closely spaced, often separated by less than their diameter, central spines to 3/4 inch (2 cm) long.

The unusual flower of 'Arabesque' resembles a picoteed tuberous double begonia, but to me is even more beautiful! Relatively short-lasting? Yes, but it is always an exciting event when an ‘Arabesque’ flower opens. The name refers to the outer pink or light magenta picotee-like marking of the petals. Open warm. ISI 99-4; HBG 82616. Rooted offsets $7.50.
