This subspecies of the variable and widespread E. reichenbachii stands out by virtue of its dense, interlacing, reddish-brown, pectinate spination. The flowers are typically gorgeous vivid magenta, paler in the throat, with a dense brush of creamy anthers from which the green stigma emerges. This subspecies is reported from the state of Coahuila, Mexico. HBG 104720, $8.
