Lachenalia pustulata Jacq

Though not possessed of one of the most appealing of species names, this is nevertheless one of the loveliest of this genus of winter-growing bulbs.  The specific epithet refers to the pustule-like bumps that cover each bulb’s one or two leaves.  In this form the conical racemes, to 15 cm or so tall, are packed from top to bottom with cheery purplish-pink flowers with long exserted stamens of the same color.  HBG 95220, seedlings from plants collected along the Wolfberg road, E of Port Nolloth, N. Cape. S. Africa.  $6.
