Crassula hirtipes Harvey

Watching this dwarf clumper grow is something akin to watching the hands of a clock move – there seems to be no progress until one ignores it for a while.  Its appearance is reminiscent of the slightly larger mesemb Delosperma echinatum which has similarly plump, ovoid leaves covered with bristly papillae sparse enough to reveal the underlying dark green skin.  This crassula can blush bright red with cool winter temperatures if grown in good light with adequate ventilation.  Rooted cuts of HBG 95214, a plant collected by David M. Cumming (DMC 2995) near Vredendal, W. Cape, S. Africa.  $6.
