Sulcorebutia mentosa F. Ritter

The Huntington’s 1984 expedition to Bolivia continues to yield choice sulcorebutias as they undergo the slow process of vegetative propagation to generate sufficient quantities for ISI distribution.  Here we offer a dark, reddish-brown-spined form (Clone 1) that slowly clumps and bears intense magenta flowers.  A few plants of Clone 3, with dark brown, almost black, spines are also available.  Rooted cuts of HBG 53130, a plant collected May 11, 1984 by M. Kimnach  (# 2817), W. Baker, J. Donald, S. Linden & H. Varney at 7100’ near the Río Santa Ana near Aiquile, Dept. Cochabamba, Bolivia.  $7.
