ISI 2003-27. Fouquieria formosa Kunth ex H.B.K.

Of several Huntington accessions of this species, this one was chosen for ISI distribution as the most attractive. Its deep green epidermis makes a suitable foil for the peeling bark that sheds in amber-colored parchment-like flakes. In the Desert Garden this specimen has matured into a handsome and shapely multi-trunked tree. Minimal pruning has been required to maintain it, but thinning in 2000 afforded the material for this distribution. Rooted cuts of HBG 24778, a plant collected Dec. 11, 1969, by J. Henrickson (4294) on flats near Petlanco, 15 km. due SW of Tehuacán, Puebla, Mexico. $8.50.
